What is Comfort Heating or Hydronic Heating?

A heating system that uses water to move heat, British Thermals Units (BTU's) from a heat source to the heated space is known as a hydronic system. The most commonly used system to this point is called hot water baseboard. This type of hydronic heating systems installed in the United States use hot water running through base board heating units to heat the living spaces of the home. People like it because, like radiators in the days of old, there are no fans to blow dust around and aggravate or increase winter allergies and sinus problems.

The newest technology is tubing running underneath the floor of the room(s) to be heated. This system is filled with water or glycol, which circulates, producing gentle warmth to the room when called for. Pleasant to walk on. Dogs and cats love it! No overheating. Energy efficient, environmentally friendly and economical. The Hydro-Shark II is all that and more.

Ok, so why is it more comfortable than forced air or baseboard heating?

Radiant floor heating systems (hydronic) offer more even heating of the living space. In a hydronic system, there’s no air blowing around the room, so there are virtually no drafts to make people uncomfortable. And because the hydronic system is heating the living space via radiating surfaces rather than hot air, the air is not getting dried out as much as with a Forced Air System. By not overheating the air, a hydronic system makes it easier to maintain a comfortable humidity level during the heating season. And note that the thermostat can be set to a lower temperature and the room can still feel comfortable. Energy savings, lower heating bills AND comfort!

Will I really SAVE MONEY?

Absolutely! Water is a far better carrier of heat than just blowing air. Because more of the heat is being radiated to the living space rather than blown into it, there is less heat loss through the cracks around doors and windows than there is with a forced air system, therefore fewer Btu’s need to be produced to keep the living space comfortable. Fewer Btu's, less cost.
